Measure Twice and Cut Once
Being a leader is about making decisions. Most leaders pride themselves on making them quick and decisively. However, being quick and decisive is not always the best method.
I recently added remodeling to my list of around-the-house chores. I’ve learned one very important lesson, if I don’t take my time I often end up doing the work over again. So the old carpenter’s phrase, “measure twice, cut once” came to have special meaning to me. The more I took my time in the thinking and planning stage, the greater, and even quicker, were my rewards.
This lesson is applicable to leading. Involving your fellow employees in the decision making process is like “measuring twice.” Making the decision together is the “cut once.”
Learning to apply this principle has reaped so many more rewards.
